Overview of Navmesh Creation Tools
Xense AR supports Navmesh creation using the Unity Xense Editor and Web Navmesh Editor. The Unity Xense Editor can export Navmesh for iOS, Android, and Web, while the Web Navmesh Editor focuses on creating Navmesh for Web. The choice of tool depends on the target platform for the data and the project’s editing workflow.
| Tool | Output Format | Platform |
|---|---|---|
| Unity Xense Editor | .ios, .android, .tjsnm | iOS, Android, Web respectively |
| Web Navmesh Editor | .tjsnm | Web |
Navmesh files for the same space must use the same base name and differ only in their file extensions, so that the system can correctly identify and use the appropriate file for each platform.
Example:
building_A.ios
building_A.android
building_A.tjsnmWhen preparing and delivering the data, keep the following points in mind:
- The
.glbfile used as input for the Web Navmesh Editor must comply with the specifications described in the dedicated documentation. - If multiple tools are used to create Navmesh for the same space, verify that the output files correspond to the same model and the same area before naming and delivering them.
- In the Web Navmesh Editor, Generate Navmesh only applies changes to the currently open working file.
- To preserve the data for further editing, use Save Project to download the
.zipproject file. - To obtain the final Navmesh, use Download Navmesh with TJSNM Format to download the
.tjsnmfile. - The
.zipworking file is intended for continued editing and is not the final Navmesh file.
Usage Requirements
- A modern browser with WebGPU support (such as the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge). The tool does not work in browsers that only support WebGL.
- A 3D model of the area for which the Navmesh will be created, in
.glbor.gltfformat. - To continue editing a previously saved session, the
.zipproject file exported from the tool must be available.
Main Function Groups
| No. | Function Group | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Load Model | Load a 3D model (.glb/.gltf) by clicking to select a file or dragging and dropping it into the Load Model area. |
| 2 | Generate Navmesh | Automatically generate Navmesh (Solo or Tiled) from the loaded model and display the resulting statistics in the NavMesh Stats panel. |
| 3 | Area Marker | Place a box-shaped marker on the model to assign an Area Type and Region ID to the portion of the Navmesh within the box. |
| 4 | Add-link (Manual Linking) | Create a manual link (off-mesh link) between two non-adjacent points on the Navmesh, such as between two floors. |
| 5 | Link Editor | Inspect and enable/disable individual links between a pair of polygons on the generated Navmesh. |
| 6 | Camera Controls | Rotate and move the 3D view using the mouse and the W-A-S-D-Q-E keys, while also adjusting the movement speed. |
| 7 | Save/Load Project | Save the entire working session (model, configuration, Area Markers, links, and Navmesh) as a .zip file and reload it later. |
| 8 | Export Output | Export the generated Navmesh as a .tjsnm file for use by the Xense AR system. |
