Spatial Map Overview
A Spatial Map is a digital map representing an area in the real world. It provides the foundation for the Xense AR Platform to localize devices, place Spatial Content, and deliver Spatial AR experiences within the corresponding area.
Depending on the map type and intended use, a Spatial Map can be supplemented with GPS data, a 2.5D Map, and a NavMesh.
A Spatial Map is a dataset consisting of multiple spatial components that are created and managed on the platform for different purposes.
Creating a Spatial Map
The Xense AR Platform supports multiple methods for creating a Spatial Map:
| Method | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Xense AR Scanning App | Collect spatial data at a real-world location using a mobile device |
| Community | Use a Spatial Map shared on the platform |
| GPS | Create a map based on a geographic area and coordinates |
| Data Upload | Create a Spatial Map from a dataset collected using supported tools |
Collected or uploaded data must be processed before the Spatial Map is ready for use.
Managing a Spatial Map
After creating a Spatial Map, users can:
- View map information.
- Rename the map.
- Configure GPS.
- Add a 2.5D Map.
- Add a NavMesh.
- Configure privacy settings.
- Delete the map.
Available functions may vary depending on the type and status of the Spatial Map.
Using a Spatial Map
A Spatial Map can be used in different ways:
| User | Usage |
|---|---|
| Creator | Use the Spatial Map in the Editor to create Spatial Content and configure Navigation |
| Developer | Use the Spatial Map when integrating the Unity SDK or corresponding SDK to build applications |
| Application | Use the Spatial Map for localization and to deliver Spatial AR experiences to End Users |
General Workflow
The general workflow for using a Spatial Map can be summarized as follows:
Create or select data → Process data → Complete the Spatial Map → Use it in the Editor, SDK, or application
